City of Diamondhead, MS, -CITY MANAGER

City of Diamondhead, Mississippi (pop. 8,593) is seeking a candidate to fill the City Manager position. Diamondhead is located in Hancock County in southern Mississippi.  The City Manager is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of a mayor and 5 member council who serve for four year terms.  Departments include Police, Community Development, Municipal Court, Administration, and Public Works. The City Manager is responsible for a $4.5 million budget and 35 full time employees. The City Manager is the administrative head of the City and is responsible for planning, directing and coordinating all city departments with the exception of Police and establishes and maintains effective working relationships with staff, elected and appointed public officials, representatives of business and government organizations, and the general public as set forth in MS Code §21-9-29. A Bachelor’s degree in public or business administration, or equivalent and a minimum of three (3) years of municipal supervisory experience is preferred. Experience may be substituted for education. Knowledge of municipal government, budgeting and financial management, economic development, effective management practices and developing strong team work are important. Ability to communicate effectively and establish strong trust and working relationships with local governments and agencies is essential. Starting salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. City of Diamondhead, MS – TREASURER 

The City of Diamondhead is accepting applications for an experienced Treasurer. VIEW JOB DESCRIPTION

The Treasurer is responsible for assisting in the planning and the organizing of all phases of the City’s municipal accounting or budgeting activities.  Work requires application to the principles and practices of public finance.  Work is performed under the supervision of the City Clerk with considerable independence in developing and effecting improved work methods and procedures.  Questions relating to major program objectives, policy interpretations and work priorities are discussed with the City Manager.  Work is reviewed and evaluated through periodic conferences and discussions and on basis of adherence to established policies and deadlines. This position requires working with confidential information.

DESIRABLE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

*          Graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting.

*          CPA licensure preferred but not required, considerable responsible experience, minimum 3 years’ in public finance/budget/accounting/auditing administration.

*          Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
