4th of July Updates
Diamondhead, Miss. July 3, 2019 – The City of Diamondhead has multiple updates for residents and visitors to keep in mind as we go into the 4th of July weekend.
- Waste Management will run is regular pickup route on July 4th. If this is your regular trash collection day, don’t forget to put your bins at the curb.
- In addition to the beach closures, MDEQ has also issued a water contact advisory for a segment of the Jourdan River from the I-10 bridge to the mouth of the river into St. Louis Bay. MDEQ recommends that people avoid water contact such as swimming, wading, and fishing. People should also avoid eating fish or anything else taken from these waters until further notice. MDEQ encourages the public to be aware of their surroundings and notify the agency if they see HAB in other sections of the river or anywhere else on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. An algal bloom is the rapid growth of algae on the surface of the water.
- All City offices will be closed on July 4th and 5th in observance of Independence Day and will reopen on Monday, July 8th.
- Discharging of fireworks within the city limits is prohibited by ordinance. It is always best to leave fireworks to the experts; but if you do choose to create your own display in other areas of the county where fireworks are allowed this Independence Day remember to think safety first. - If you are looking for some fun in the sun this holiday weekend, all of our community pools will be open this weekend, and there will be hamburger plates available for purchase at the main pool. There are also multiple events going on throughout Hancock County, including fireworks on the beach in Waveland starting around 9 p.m. (depends on sunset and wind).
