Drainage
The City of Diamondhead is currently working on several drainage projects. Below is a list of the projects and the current status.
Drainage Projects
- Paradise Bayou Area (Must rebid) This project is to dredge the Paradise Bayou canal and the Fingerling canals on the Southside of Diamondhead. The project design has been completed. Expected March/April date for project to start.
- Coon Branch (Bidding) This project is currently in a design phase with the engineering firm collecting survey data in the Northeast Quadrant of Diamondhead. The overall scope of this project is to stabilize the ditch banks behind homes, as well as increase ditch and culvert sizes on roadsides.
- Coon Branch Phase 2 (Bidding) Phase 2 encompasses the area around Koloa Street and Ala Moana.
- Coon Branch Phase 3 (Bidding) Phase 3 encompasses the rear of Polo Court and Kahana Street.
- Coon Branch Phase 4 (Bidding) Phase 4 encompasses the area around Anahola and Hana Street.
- Kalipekona Pond (Construction Phase) This project includes the dredging of the Kalipekona pond and the modification of the current weir. This area will be the beginning of the much larger Bank Stabilization project.
- Kome Drive (Construction Phase) This project is upsizing driveway and landscape culverts on both sides of Kome Drive. The overall scope of the project will be to increase the sizes of the driveway culverts and the roadside ditch to be able to handle a larger capacity of stormwater.
- Bank Stabilization (Design stage) This is a larger project that will stabilize the ditch banks and control erosion for residents along Kiko Street, Iona Street, Apelehama Road, Apelehama Circle, Kome Drive, and Kalipekona Way.
Completed Projects to date
- Diamondhead Drive East (Completed) Upsided the culverts under the road on Diamondhead Drive East.
- Alkii Way (Completed) Installed concrete drainage ditch from Diamondhead Drive East near the East Rec Area.
- Hilo Street (Completed) Installed larger culverts from the golf course between houses and under Hilo Street to the detention pond.
- Hilo Street @ Ewa Street (Completed) This project addressed the driveway and landscape culverts on Hilo Street near Ewa Street. The overall scope of the project was to increase the sizes of the driveway culverts and the roadside ditch to be able to handle a larger capacity of stormwater.
- I-10 Pond (Completed) This project was to dredge the large detention pond near Anoai Court and I-10. This detention pond serves as the main deposit for stormwater in drainage basin C.
- Lily Pond (Completed) This project was to dredge the detention pond on Diamondhead Drive North near Devils Elbow. This detention pond serves as the main deposit for stormwater in drainage basin A.
- Makiki Drive (Completed) This project addressed the rear ditch of homes on Makiki Drive and upsized the culverts underneath Makiki Drive. The overall scope of the project was to reshape the downstream ditch and road crossing culverts to be able to handle a larger capacity of stormwater.
- Bayou Drive (Completed) This project installed a box culvert underneath Bayou Drive. The project scope was to increase capacity to prevent road flooding.
- Kolo Court (Completed) This project addressed the drainage ditch at the rear of the properties to control erosion and to stabilize the ditch banks. The water and sewer lines along the creek bank were reinforced.
- Kalae Street (Completed) This project addressed the driveway and landscape culverts on both sides of Kalae Street. The overall scope of the project was to increase the sizes of the driveway culverts and the roadside ditch to be able to handle a larger capacity of stormwater.
- Beaux Vue 2 (Completed) This project increased the subsurface drainage culverts behind the homes on Beaux Vue Court and Golf Club Drive. An open ditch was installed.
- Kaleki Way (Completed) The upsized all driveway culverts and landscape culverts within the project area and installed crossdrains in the roadway.
- Ahuli Place (Completed) This project addressed the driveway and landscape culverts on the South side of Ahuli Place. This project increased the underground culvert across the golf course to Diamondhead Drive East to control the water to the I10 detention area.
- Hilo Way to Hapuna Place (Completed) This project addressed the driveway and landscape culverts in this area. The overall scope of the project increased the sizes of the driveway culverts and the roadside ditch to be able to handle a larger capacity of stormwater.
- Hilo Way -- West (Completed) This project replaced the culverts under the road at Hilo Way and Hilo Place.
- Hilo Way at Koko Street (Completed) This project reshaped the ditch between homes from Maui Circle to KoKo Street. Driveway and landscape culverts were also upsized along Koko Street to Diamondhead Drive East.
- Diamondhead Drive East (Completed) This project replaced the culvert under the road at Diamondhead Drive East and Aukai Place.
- Turnberry (Completed) This project redirected the stormwater ditch into roadway culverts. This will help eliminate the erosion between homes in this area. The detention pond (Hole 4) has also be dredged and resized to increase capacity.
