HANCOCK COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, MAYOR OF BAY ST. LOUIS, MAYOR OF WAVELAND, MAYOR OF DIAMONDHEAD, DIAMONDHEAD CITY MANAGER, HANCOCK COUNTY SHERIFF, BSL POLICE AND FIRE CHIEF, WAVELAND POLICE AND FIRE CHIEF, DIAMONDHEAD FIRE, VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENTS, AIRPORT, PORT AND HARBOR.

Here is an update concerning the heat today.

Overview:

WHAT:  Heat index values in the danger level

WHEN: Today and possibly tomorrow

WHERE: Southeast and East Central Louisiana and Coastal Mississippi

Impacts:

The main threats associated with long exposure in heat will be:

Muscle Cramps
Heat exhaustion
Possibly heatstroke

Heat indices of 104 to 108 are expected this afternoon across the advised area. The local heat advisory criteria is index values equal to or greater than 108. Many areas have struggled to fall into the 70s Monday morning and this morning. Lack of cooling at night and elevated heat indices during the day have prompted our office to issue a Heat Advisory for today.
