City Council Approves Sketch Plans for Montjoy Creek Improvements
Earlier this year, the City of Diamondhead completed the dredging project in Devil's Elbow. Now that that project is completed, the City is working to make improvements to Montjoy Creek that will achieve several goals. First, the City needs to prevent sediment from dumping into the Rotten Bayou at Devil's Elbow since this is what was recently dredged. New sediment traps will be added to the creek to help prevent erosion. In addition, the city wants to provide water access for residents.
The plan for this area adds a nature trail along the creek, a parking area, a kayak launch, benches along the creek, and a fishing pier with nature observatory at Rotten Bayou. Golf carts will be able to access part of the path.
The City has been awarded several grants to provide 100% funding for the project. The city is now preparing to submit required permitting applications.
