City Council Approves the Sketch Plan for the New Noma Drive Boat Launch and Pier
As part of the new "Town Center" Master Plan, the Mayor and City council are working to improve the existing boat launch at the end of Noma Drive.
This area was once used by barges when Purcell Company developed condos in the community. The company would barge pre-fabricated buildings into this area and unload the building onto a truck to deliver these to the future sites of the condos in community.
The City would like to renovate this area to create a new public boat launch for residents to enjoy. This boat launch would provide direct access into the Jourdan River. In addition, the city would add an ADA kayak launch and 8' wide boardwalk. The pier would run along the banks of the water line and include several seating areas for residents to enjoy. This will be a great place for fishing. It would also include a nature observatory for bird watching. There will also be a lighted parking area for trailers and a restroom.
By creating this new public boat launch in the waterfront district of the Town Center, the city expects to see a restaurant, boat storage facility and retail shop open in this location.
The city has applied for a $400,000 FY20 Tidelands grant. In addition, the city applied for a FY21 GOMESA Grant and a FY21 Tidelands Grant to help fund the project.
The city hopes to submit the application for permitting in the near future.
