SPECIAL ELECTION NOTICE

ORDER FOR AN ELECTION

Order No. 2020-059

IT IS HEREBY ORDERED THAT: Pursuant to Mississippi Code Annotated Section 23-15-857, on Tuesday, October 20, 2020, a Special Municipal Election will be held in the City of Diamondhead, Hancock County, Mississippi, for the purpose of electing a qualified candidate to fill the position of Mayor of the City of Diamondhead, Mississippi. 

The nonpartisan Special Election will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at the Diamondhead Community Center located at 5300 Diamondhead Circle for Wards 2, 3 and 4 and City Hall 5000 Diamondhead Circle, Diamondhead for Ward 1.  The qualifying period will remain unchanged and no additional time will be provided for any other candidates to qualify.   

ABSENTEE VOTING:

Absentee Ballots, in-person or by mail, having previously been cast for the September 15, 2020 election in accordance with the laws governing such absentee voting and such absentee ballots shall be considered and reviewed by the Election Resolution Board as required by law.  The Municipal Election Commission will include all such lawfully cast absentee ballots previously cast in the final election results in the same manner as other absentee votes that shall be hereafter cast for the October 20, 2020 special election. It is the intention of the City of Diamondhead that all votes should be counted to ensure that each elector has their vote properly counted. 

Absentee voting for the October 20, 2020 Special Election for qualified electors, other than those having already cast a ballot, is now available at Diamondhead City Hall from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday and Saturday, October 10, 2020 from 8 a.m. to noon and Saturday, October 17, 2020 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  The last day to cast an absentee ballot in person at City Hall will be Saturday, October 17th before 5:00 p.m.

So, ORDERED AND DIRECTED by the City Council of the City of Diamondhead, Mississippi that a special election of the City of Diamondhead, Mississippi residents shall be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2020.
