Tropical Storm Barry Update #1

Diamondhead, Miss. July 11, 2019, 6 p.m. – The Diamondhead City Council and staff are fully apprised of the situation regarding Tropical Storm Barry.  City officials have received multiple briefings from the Hancock County Emergency Management Agency, and are vigilantly monitoring the storm as it develops.

At this time, the biggest concern will be heavy rainfall beginning Friday evening and lasting through Saturday.  Rainfall is predicted to be between 6 and 10 inches.  Hancock County EMA is also expecting a 2 – 4 foot storm surge.  Residents who live in low lying areas that are prone to flooding are encouraged to take the necessary precautions to avoid damage to their property.  Sand and bags are available at City Hall.  Please bring your own shovel.

Although Tropical Storm Barry remains unorganized, Hancock County and the City of Diamondhead have declared a local State of Emergency in case it is necessary to mobilize further resources.  At this time, there are no plans to open a flood shelter.  The next scheduled briefing will take place tomorrow afternoon.
